The Apteros Name

The temple of Athena Nike was built in 420 BC on the Acropolis of Athens, a rocky hilltop above the city of Athens Greece. You may have heard of the Parthenon. It was placed on this same hill.

Citizens worshiped the goddess in hopes of success during the long war against the Spartans.

Nike, the winged goddess of victory, is typically depicted with wings. Makes sense. This particular statue at the Acropolis, however, was made without wings. The sentiment and hope was that the goddess would be grounded- unable to fly away and leave them, therefore victory would remain with them. Athenians referred to this statue as Apteros Nike meaning “Wingless Nike.”

Apteros Trading adopts this story in its own origin. Our training and trading is grounded. Grounded by core market truths. Grounded and low, as in sticking to the elemental and simple basics; and grounded in terms of seeking humility and connection to what matters most. The wings in our logo are a near-ironic reminder to us every day: stay grounded in your trading.
